Reasons to have a programmable thermostat

Honeywell brand and products from Max MechanicalMoney. That’s the biggest reason. Unless you just don’t mind wasting energy and paying more money for doing so then that is reason #1.
Aside from being a tad more complicated than a non-programmable thermostat , most of us won’t have a hard time figuring them out. Now I’m not saying we should all rush out and spend hundreds of dollars for a fancy new internet capable thermostat, but even just spending a small amount to upgrade to a basic programmable can actually save you a good chunk of change if you look at the yearly savings.

The advantage is you can program your thermostat to turn on and off for certain temperatures for the times of day that will not only make you more comfortable in your home but save you energy because your AC unit won’t be running when you don’t want it to be.

I have read figures as high as 33% savings but I’m guessing thats compared to someone who just leaves their AC on at the same temperature all summer long.

Even if you do adjust your thermostat occasionally and we adjust that down to 15%, thats still a good amount of savings.

If you pay an average of $200 a month in electricity and you only save 15% a year by using a programmable thermostat that = $ 360 a year savings.

I don’t know about you… but I could use an extra $ 360 right about now!

I’ll try and post some more info about the differences in Thermostats and why companies are excited about the growing trend of internet connectivity in thermostats in our next blog.
